TI-83 section open
Posted by Magnus on 25 November 2001, 15:51 GMT

We have now opened up the TI-83 section again after review, with around 3,500 files.

The selection of the TI-83 section was based on the feedback from the current survey, and we expect to at least partially follow the results from this survey in the future. However, expect some of the smaller sections to open a bit earlier than they are listed.

Update (Magnus): Amiga section now opened.

Update (Magnus): Atari section now opened.

I was hoping that the Ti-92 Plus section would open up next, but I guess the 83 section did win the survey. Oh well, not long before I'm happy ;)

Speaking of survey, anyone think it should be updated since TI-83 section is now open?

Thank you guys.. the poll was a great idea, even if I voted for the ti-92+, thank you for taking in mind users requests.

I only realised it after posting, since there is a 5 min delay or something. There wasn't any post before I clicked "comment".

Just why is there that 5 min (or so) delay anyway?

It's called scripting, and updating.... I think that the script saves a file, which is updated in increments of 5 minutes or so. Magus knows more :)

Sorry, when I looked at the thank you for you post page, I realized that Ticalc.org has a database system setup so that you comment is put into the database with a scrpits and then the database is continuously loaded into the page lising all of the posts (With the 5 minute delay of course). This more correct Magus?????

The only 'n' missing in either of your posts is in his name... interesting.

Sounds a little suspicious... (a conspiracy in the midst) Perhaps Magus is trying to take oer the world... (A Freudian slip perhaps)

Maybe it's related to that crazy Swedish car that won't let you break the speed limit or drive drunk. Is Big Brother lurking around?

Yeah, that's about it.

Pages are generated every 5 minutes from the database. That way, we avoid hitting the database with one or more queries everytime somebody requests a page. It allows us to serve up thousands of hits per minute without any problem off our old 200MHz:er...

I'm not sure if it should be considered a section, but
the author profiles are still inaccessable since the
archives have been down. I'm sure all of the authors/
programmers on ticalc.org would appriciate it if those
were to come on-line again. It was just kind of neat
to be able to see all the statistics on one page.

Just my two cents.

Only problem with that is that, depending on how the database is set up, you might have lots of links to files that aren't available yet.... to rewrite the database to make author pages available would probably take a lot of coding... more so than cleansing the archives

Dead on. Since we don't want to spend time on rewriting the page generation stuff, they'll be down until the screening is done.

Good idea... why not just the user profiles except for the file listing?

Just MY 2 cents
