API92 Library Released
Posted by Eric on 25 May 2001, 19:04 GMT

Benoit Scherrer has come out with an interesting new library for the TI-89, TI-92, and TI-92+ called API92 (yes, the TI-89 version is called API92 too- go figure). Anyhoo, the library, which was programmed 100% in assembly language, offers functions including array manipulation and nested folders, as well as other components such as a progress bar, scroll bar, etc. API92's homepage can be found here.

This sounds cool - is it for BASIC access or assembly? I'll have to get around to learning 68K one of these days . . . but with TIGGC why bother?

The program is in assembly (*hack cough Doors, hack cough*) so I would assume it would mean nothing to BASICer's. I just wish 68k shells would curl up and die. (Except for UniOS, of course.:)

Yeah, I too find it surprising that people still program for shells/kernels.

Kernels (and especially unios) are very usefull I think... I prefer smaller and faster programs (smaller because of the librairies, faster when these librairies are very fast, like genlib for example).

Well it for 68k assembly nto for BASIC, now most of the functions in this list are covered by flib. Now i am still impressed with API92, it just isn't useful to me :( I use C and TI-BASIC.

The reason you should bother, even though you use TIGCC is that you write _much_ better C code if you understand the underlying asm.
You also have _much_ easier to find bugs, and understand them.
If you understand the system (and the asm is a part of this system), you can write programs with much higher performance.
(probably using small routines in asm for the really timecritical parta)

Well i'd make it restore defaults and hide all files. I'd really like a program that auto-runs a program the first time the calc turns on after a reset. I have figured out how to just block the mem thing i use short cuts and give it an empty string for it to run.

Well is it in C or ASM? If it's for the 89 why not just archive everything? and hide it? The really reset the calc?

Your keyboard is broken.
It seems your caps lock key has stuck.
Please fix it or buy a new one.
