Phoenix III Released
Posted by Eric on 16 April 2001, 06:19 GMT

Patrick Davidson has released a preview of the long-awaited Phoenix III for the TI-86. This, as you might infer, is the sequel to his super-popular game, Phoenix. New stuff, you ask? The thing's not even complete yet, but it already features grayscale and a scrolling background. Gameplay is smooth as ever. And it only gets better from here...

Update (Eric): Well, I promised y'all that it only gets better from here, and here you go: Phoenix III Preview v0.01 again, this time for the TI-83+! Huzzah!

Wow...you guys sound like idiots. You've been releasing games, yet Phoenix is the only one out there...and the other guy thinks he can top _THE_ Patrick Davidson. Ha, fools.

Well, you realize _THE_ Patrick Davidson has only released 12 games right. 2 of these were original (the kart ones), and everyone of them has around 20 versions, (except the kart ones). Now if this is necessary for someone to be one of the best, then what is the world coming to? Not one of his games have any manner of plot and they are all simply take-up-spare-time arcade games. Alien Invasion is better than all of his games.
Oh no, now Jason Ho is going to start complimenting himself and clutter up the board, oh well.

I'm very disturbed that you feel the need to mention that my games only have 20 versions. I am aware that this is a deficiency, but if you had bothered to read my other posts, you'd know I will soon fix this with my script to automatically create 500 versions per day.

Anyway, even though naming a shoot-em-up game "Phoenix" may not be original, it's certainly original to apply that name to other types of games, like the wonderful "Phoenix 31337" number-guessing game that will be released, very soon (as soon as I've finished Phoenix 5555, which is already well under development). So just wait, soon you will see the real power of Phoenix.

On the other hand, if you really do like the "Kart" games so much, I might be willing to try to placate you by releasing a couple hundred extra versions of them, if you pledge in exchange a lifetime of servitude to the Evil Phoenix Conspiracy (tm).

You want to give him something so that he'll pledge devotion to the Evil Phoenix Conspiracy (tm) ?!

I mean come on Patrick! I'll join for free! I dont have anything better to do, not only will I join, I think i'll complain about people who add features and fix bugs in their existing programs! (no really)

ai from a programming point of view is a complete failure! from a gammers pov it is super cool... why because a programer looks at it and says oh boy! someone who has programed in c for 1 week and wrote a game hmmm... must be bloated... could use some smoothing out of the animations possibly using an interrupt so it runs at consistant speed... wonder how many unintended side effects are floating around? 1 week? questionable.

The gamer likes it because it can be beaten (ever have so many level 9 cluster bombs that you wasted thru 30 or so levels like it was nobody's business?) unlike phoenix which is wayyyy to hard on the hard levels and wayyy to easy on the beginner level...

If you think it's bad now, know that the flood is just beginning! I am now putting the finishing touches on a script that will automatically upload new versions of Phoenix with no manual effort at all! Within a week, you should be seeing at least 500 new versions of Phoenix a day, and then your programs will get absolutely zero downloads!

Sounds good, I've already wrote the program to automatically download them and update my calculator! Thanx!

If you think about it, the game would have to be quite horrible to be able to have 500 new versions a day. How could a game need that many bug-fixes and improvements unless it was a pile of junk?

Who said they all had to be improvements? After a whole lot of improvements, I can just add new bugs to it to create new versions. Then, once I've gone through 100 version of only adding new bugs, I can create 100 new versions by removing those bugs one at a time. You shouldn't think of the development of programs like Phoenix as being simply a one-directional process.

You had better watch out, as the tyranny is only beginning! I already have plans to release versiosn 4, 6, 83, 720, and 5555 in the near future! And it won't only be a shoot-em-up game, but will expand into an evil empire over every genre imaginable! Phoenix 420 will be a breakout game, and Phoenix 31337 will be a number guessing game! There will be no escape!

you guys are idiots... patrick has been making kickass games for along time and can make far better games than you could dream of. the day you can make an equal program, and then another, and another on top of that... and continue to produce kickass games then i'll thank you and give you credit as a great ASM programer, but until then i don't beleve that you have the right to talk bad about his work, i appreciate what he is doing to help eleminate my boredom in class and withouth programers like him we would have no good programs because there would be nothing good to try to beat and out-do.

anyway, thanks patrick it's awesome (specially the one i got, tee hee hee)

Number one: I did not say anything bad about his games.
Number two: None of his games express creativity.
Number three: Only 1/6 of his games are original.
Number four: He is a wonderful ASM programmer.
Number five: But only for arcade games.

Number one: Good for you, I was thinking I might have had to send the Phoenix Storm Trooper Death Squad after you, but you have changed my mind.
Number two: Come one, who else has created an Evil Master Plan to release over 31,337 games with the same name? Nobody! If that's not creative, what is?
Number three: Right, but 100% of the Phoenix auto-programming script is!
Number four: Of course I am! And while you are it at, note that I am even better in programming Phoenix-Pascal, the special version of Pascal I am creating just to help in developing new versions of Phoenix!
Number five: And number guessing games, don't you dare forget that!!!! But, wait a minute ... who told you that Phoenix 21,452 wouldn't be an RPG? I certainly never said that!!!!!!
