3 Terabytes Transferred, 200 Million Requests
Posted by Eric on 3 April 2001, 02:30 GMT

We're happy to announce yet another set of milestones reached by ticalc.org. In the past few days we've reached our 200,000,000th request and broken the 3-terabyte barrier of data transfer. Full webserver statistics can be found on (drumroll, please) the Web Server Statistics page! Thanks to all our visitors and we hope to set many new records in the future.

Congratulations ticalc! I had no idea there were so many of us nerds (no offense intended, but if you check here on a daily basis, I'm afraid you are one. Hey, I am!)...

Probably about the time that someone in high school currently becomes a tenured graduate student (see link above for definition, courtesy of The Jargon File).

I wish my site got that many hits.

Alas, we're only sustaining ~100000 requests a month with only about 1000-2000 unique visitors. Oh well.

Congratulations.

Yes, I entered the forum to remark about this as well. Calc.org parodies this because to most it seems unnewsworthy. Maybe you could add an optional sidebar that summarizes the stats page for those who care. I have no right in choosing this site's news for it, but many other readers have stronger feelings towards the issue would be happy if you kept usage stats off the front page. Imagine slashdot: "This Just In: 50000 kazillion requests last minute!" They don't do it because it isn't pertinent to the content their site aims to deliver (well, unlike you guys they're trying to make a profit now). But I can't think of any other site that does it.

Just my $2e-2 that may open up other channels of thought..

Some of us just think it is cool like Patrick Davidson's habit of releasing a ton of Phoenix versions.

Yeah, the files for sunday look almost identical to the calc.org parody.

I don't really care, but I still find it interesting.
And we really don't see that many milestone news items that it deserves to have been made fun of.

Haha, yes they do...thats the whole point....we don't mind them, could do without them..but they are part of what makes ticalc.org .. ticalc.org .. so, you get to have some fun with it!

But on the flip side I do not think that calc.org has any "personality" like ticalc does that could be made fun of.

Perhaps you should rethink your words. Someone with no personality wouldn't have thought of a ticalc.org parody like that.

Perhaps you're thinking it isn't as constant since it has been moving around a lot....and you don't really know what is running it? Give it time and lend a hand, and i think you'll get to know it as part of the community again.

Sorry, I did not mean the individuals who run it. What I mean is that certain sites have certain airs, vibes, or attitudes about them and I do not feel those at calc.org
