Updates at TI
Posted by Eric on 16 March 2001, 02:35 GMT

The folks over at TI are busy indeed. They've recently remodeled their website for the first time in a long, long time (before my time, anyway). All of the old pages on www.ti.com/calc have now been incorporated into the new site, now located at http://education.ti.com/.

A bunch of new software applications have also been announced and released for the TI-73, TI-83+, TI-89, and TI-92+. To find out all the latest news updates at TI, check out their Latest News page.

Update (Eric): I'll also point out that TI released Beta 3 of the TI-89/92+ FLASH Studio SDK yesterday (3/15/01). You can register and download it here. Thanks to Sean Barnes for letting me know.

TIs site sucks. It has virtually nothing useful to anyone except for a few apps.

It's a great site. The ethnic diversity in the pictures is fantastic.

I assume you've been living in under a rock in a cave in Upper Mongolia for the past few months, then? It's been known about this calculator for quite some time now.

It was announced some time in January. I pretty much assumed anyone who visits this site would've known something about it.

Hmmm... Eric. Why did you give Sean credit? I sent the remodeling as a news item. Perhaps several people sent that in, but who was first?

Hey, lighten up a little. We received lots of notes about the remodeling; we already knew about it. Sean was the first to notice the new SDK.

Sure. I just think it'd be cool having my name up there (don't put it up now. It'll make me look dumb).
Thanks.

Is this going to turn out like the time TI-FR got mad at ticalc.org for not citing them as a source?

I'm not taking credit for finding TI's remodeling. What I did bring to attention was the very short announcement of a new beta SDK.

Yeah, especially the organizer for the 89/92+. I hear it's gonna be great -- a cheap alternative to a PDA =)

I should probably add a disclaimer. . . nah

I know, it would be nice to get, if it ever comes out that is. It would also be nice to get some more information about it, did you notice that the link to it is bad.

The new flash apps look great, but have been "coming soon" for a very long time now. At some point the phrase "vaporware" begins to surface. My daughter has been using the newish flash apps for the 83+ and finds them good. Lets hope the ones for the 89 are also.

Has anyone else noticed that TI is no longer selling the TI-92+ module in the online store? I could be wrong... but it seems odd. In fact, if I'm right, I can only think of one reason for this to happen.

Actually, when you buy the module, like four TI-92 Plus stickers come with it. As well as a quick reference sticker to stick on the cover. The funny thing is they are both white, thus the 92+ sticker stands out horribly.

Sell your 92 on eBay. I got $175 for mine with plus module. I got a 92+, sealed new, for $160. besides it saying 92+ on it, you also get the true black screen, which is so much better than the spinach black of the "old" 92. Itīs also lighter, I have found.

Re: Re: Updates at TI

Actually sold out was not what I was thinking. If that were the case it would at least be listed on the site.
I have asked TI about this and as of yet I have not received a response. My question to TI was: is there another upgrade in the works? My curiosity is of course peaked since the 83+ is getting a boost... maybe the 68k calcs have something in the pipeline?
