ticalc.org Reaches 15,000 Files
Posted by Phil on 6 February 2001, 02:04 GMT

Remember me? I used to be the primary filearchiver! I've passed that torch on, and moved my primary work to another project, but I still hang on to make announcements like this one.

Yep, that's right. 15,000 files. I'm impressed :).

And now, without further ado, the ten largest directories: (parenthetical figures indicate the number of files)

  1. TI-83 BASIC Games (868)
  2. TI-82 BASIC Games (557)
  3. TI-86 BASIC Math Programs (512)
  4. TI-83 BASIC Math Programs (501)
  5. TI-83 BASIC Misc. Programs (423)
  6. TI-83 Plus BASIC Games (422)
  7. TI-89 BASIC Games (397)
  8. TI-86 BASIC Games (368)
  9. TI-89 BASIC Math Programs (333)
  10. TI-89 BASIC Misc. Programs (319)

That's all from me. I'll be back in another 5,000 files or so. Have fun :)

More like a heaven ;-]

But what with all the basic coding? WE NEED MORE ASSEMBLY!!

Keep in mind that it takes a lot less effort to write a cheap BASIC program than a cheap assembly program. A lot of the BASIC programs out there are inferior versions of similar programs (how many quadratic equation programs or clones of Drugwar have you seen), whereas assembly programmers usually don't bother putting out a program if a similar program already exists.

I agree about this being a geek heaven, but keep in mind that ASM and Basic both have advantages and disadvantages. While ASM can have good graphics, Basic normally uses more text, so to an RPG fan Basic might be preferred.

Congrats to ticalc.org. I used to dislike this site, and Dimmension TI was my favorite, but now its just the opposite (cause ticalc never had any screenshots). This site rocks.

I used to hate ticalc because it had the big blocks of orange and I thought it looked nasty. And because all the text was cramped into a column in the middle. Widder is better.

But really this 15,000 file archive is a smack in the face of dimension ti or the ti-files.

If you mean TI-FR, I think that that's a bit different, since that serves a different purpose (it's for the French 68k TI community). The only other really comparable sites I'd say are Dim-TI and TI-Files (which is down after being purchased, and I find its purchase bit absurd since the other person already had TI Galaxy and should have worked on that instead of starting TI Files over with the same name).

Ok ignore my comment, there are a million TI- sites and I was kind of asleep when I posted this.

The only thing ti-files had that ticalc didn't was the calc porn and the high scores.

It died. The person who ran tigalaxy.com decided to buy ti-files.com and redesign it, instead of just redesigning tigalaxy.com, and so they took it down and it won't be back for a while. Plus, when it is back it might not be as good, since the people running it will be different. It will just be TI Galaxy with a new domain name.

What does a manufacturer of electrically-heated riding apparel for motorcyclists have to do with ticalc.org?

I belive that you mean the manufacturer of a certain car that I believe is seen all to often on the road. I for one think it's kinda ugly. Why do so many people buy them? Why not buy a Mustang? They kick ass.

I think it's Pontiac.

But I was referring to Widder Enterprises; the original post had a typo.

But how many of those screenshots have been placed with the correct programs?

There would be even more screenshots if the shots made by the author and submitted with the program were always included as well. For 2 out of the last 3 games I've submitted, I've included screenshots (in the proper form and everything, with the file upload form), and they haven't been added to the site. If you have the screenshots already, it should be pretty easy just to put them on the site, right?

There are a whole bunch of screenshots pending. We, umm, kinda forgot to approve them for a while :). Check in a week or two after we've worked through the wee backlog :).
