Sami Khawan Releases Beta PIXpand
Posted by Eric on 31 October 2000, 17:25 GMT

Sami Khawan, otherwise known as the Euro with the cool email address, has released a beta version of the PIXpand, a memory expander for the TI-82, TI-83(+), TI-85, TI-86, TI-89, and TI-92(+). The interesting part of the PIXpand is that it uses Playstation Memory cards as media. Get more information about this and his other nifty projects here.

Hi,
Yes, this should work with all calculators, as it transfers files like the normal graphlink or w32Tran8x programs.

Finally! A calculator memory expander, that works (hopefully)! Now I never have to worry about my '86 crashing on the first day of a 3 week vacation! Kudos Sami!!! Wow, playstation memory cards, so, what happens if I put one that has PS files on it, into the calc, or vice versa?

(:

Still, finally, a cheap, expandable memory expander!

Right-now (i.e. beta version), PS game saves are not reconigzed. When you send something to the device (from the calc or from the PC) the device will ask you to confirm that it is going to delete the current memory location. Thus it will delete anything (PS game saves and pervious calculator files).

In the final version, you will be able to read and write the content of any PS memory card. This includes game save. And thus you will be able to modify the content of the game save ( many prog are available for this on the internet).

Is this memory in address space, or just as RAM disc?

According to the web site, it's sort of like having a PC connected to your calc. You can send files to it and recieve from it, but there's no way you're going to run programs off of it (unless developers include support for memory cards in their programs!)

I'm not sure if its worth buying a PSX memory card. Oh well! I'm still quite impressed.

That's really cool. Finally a way to use easily available memory to expand a calc. And the fact that it is Available for all calcs is awesome too: )
