I didn't know where else to put this message but I thought this news item would be a good example of this suggestion. Sometimes when I see featured programs, I look who it's made by. Usually that person's name is one I don't recognize and I want to see whatever else the person has written. I would have to go through the process of scrolling down, selecting the file info, then finally selecting the authors name.

Now this seems to be not so much of a hassle. However when four potm come out at the same time, this increases the time it takes to do this process. It seems to me that instead of linking to the author's email address, you could link to the author's little "programs made page". On that page there is their email so you could still contact them.

I do realize it is more work for the webmaster N*cough*ick, but it makes it easier for users like me to get more progs they like.

This is a good idea, but flawed for only one reason: if someone encounters a bug with a program or wants to give feedback, a quick link to the email address of said author provides unbridled ease for the person to vent their concern.

I appreciate your feedback, but there's only so much info one can cram into a news item. :(

But you could certainly make the program names link to their own entries - each program has its little page - and not the zips directly, so that all of us who want to glance at the readme and such before downloading (I'd imagine that's a very large portion) can simple scroll down and click the link to that, rather than go fishing around for it. . .

That's what the file info icon is for (it's the little document with a magnifying glass just to the left of the program name).
Anyway, I like the idea of having the author's name link to their author page instead of their e-mail address.

I'm not sure if I understand what your reasoning is. Sorry. I am one of those "visual learning" people.

Isn't the author's email address accessible (don't mind the spelling) on the "programs made page"? So the person with a comment or complaint on a program could still contact them easily.

I understand that you guys are busy taking screen shots of programs and adding little red thingy's to the program info link but this is something to consider after the ss.ticalc.org project is done.

I like the pastel-ish blue/purple we currently have on animated icons... I'll ask Magnus about the possibility of doing the same to the red.

Kirk Meyer wrote a program that takes animated screenshots of a program that is running in an emulator. I would be doing screenshots for Dim-TI and here, but that would require me to find a more stable os for my comp, and at this point my parents won't let me get win2k, although I have the money to buy it and meet the sysreqs. I have incompatible hardware for linux (^^%$#%#%^%$#%^$#@$%^ing winmodem!).

It is also possible to string together static images into an animated gif, but this results in terrible frame rates and much more work for the screenshooter.

Anyone know if VTI will work well under windoze 98 second edition? or win2k professional?

Yeah, before I put win2k in, my w98 box took twenty minutes to post, boot, log in, and finally get to no disk activity.

TWENTY. MINUTES.

Win2k used to take three; now it takes ten. It's getting there, but much slower now.

In my experience, running programs tends to slow Windows 98 down. If you just leave it its fine, and is quite happy to demonstrate how nice its graphics card is by mucking around with Geiss (http://www.geisswerks.com).

As for Win2000, I reckon I may get my laptop with Windows ME. And Bill Gates says he isn't an egotist.... Windows me indeed...

Ha. gotcha beat. My OS boots in about 10 seconds. maybe a grand total of about 30-45 with post/bootman/os/tracker starting.

Yeah, the new icons look cool... but when all the files have screenshots, would it make sense to make the screenshot icon white because it would be the standard icon?

i think the screenshotted programs should have the blue icon, red for animated, green for featured. the blue would be easier on the eyes..

I agree, the red is quite annoying to look at.
