TI-83+ Robot from Norland Research
Posted by Eric on 2 August 2000, 03:43 GMT

Kevin FitzGerrell sent in a link about a new Calculator Robot from Norland Research. This robot uses a TI-83+ for controls, and allows a user to easily construct a TI-BASIC program that calls an assembly program to move the robot around. Pretty nifty stuff.

that's an interesting picture on the calcrobot website of REAL HUMANS interacting with the device. I think this guy's going for the sex appeal as well; notice the cleavage on the girl on the right. Yowsa!

Why would TWO girls play with a CALCULATOR???

The girls at my school doesn't even know how to add on theirs and they aren't really interested in learning it! So the chance of two girls and no boys playing voluntary with a calculator-based system are very low.

I think the photo has been faked!

lol. I agree. The only girls at my school who even have a graphing calc are Korean foreign exchange students. And that's only cuz they're so smart. Most asian kids are very smart (sorry to be stereotypical but it's generally true).

maybe the photo has some deeper meaning...............

Asians are not naturally smarter. Through rough parental upbringing, they work harder and do better in school than Americans do.

The people are the focus in the comment board cuz the robot is kinda rediculous. Why anyone would spend $99 for a calc robot I dont know. If someone's so interested in robots and electronics then just save your money and buy one of those model airplanes that go 250mph. I mean, how much fun can you really have with a robot attatched to a calc. Sure, it'd be fun for a day to show off to your friends but it's not worth $99 of my money when it's just gonna sit in my closet for the rest of my life.

Maybe sending them heaps of email telling them that they don't have a chance of selling any unless their models go topless would help. They don't have a clue, I've made a maze-solving robot (ti86, not ti83, but they're extremely similar) for what you Americans would call about 40 dollars plus calculator. It's not hard.

Ciaran,

We would love to see your work. Could not find any information on you robot at your website. It would be very interesting to the hundreds of people who have emailed me and visited our web site. There are many people with other applications they would love to connect to their calculators. Such as data collection, remote sight sampling, automation, basic electronic learning and of course robotics. I think it would be great if someone would build a walking TI, would look much better than one with wheels!
