Lite86 II Compressor by Kirk Meyer, Code Converter v.21
Posted by Nick on 10 June 2000, 18:33 GMT

Kirk "Rock The Casbah" Meyer has released the Lite86 II Compressor in Windows form. Lite86 allows programmers to achieve much smaller programs by compressing them beforehand. This is very helpful for developers looking to crunch their programs below the limitations imposed by TI. One of the other features of Lite86 is it can create self-extracting programs: programs that decompress and execute all at once when run. Many new features are included in this one, all of which are available in the readme if you so desire to view them.

Also, Jonah Cohen's Code Converter has been updated to version .21. This includes random bugfixes and a few minor tweakings.

I was just going to come out with a shell that does the same thing. But I was dragged down by the thought of adding full TI-85 Emulation. I didn't come out with it in time!!!

Damn it!!

There already is such a shell, zip86. It crashes quite a bit, too. Compression is best done on the computer instead of the calculator... if you compress on the calculator, you end up wasting a lot of space with the compression trees that you need and stuff like that. It's much better for the program authors to implement compression themselves, since it leads to more efficient compression anyway and plus the program authors will know what crashes the calculator and what does not.

It would not compress on the calculator, since I don't know how to do that. You just use my compiler batch file to compile it and compress it. Then you send it to your calc, and presto, CShell runs it. It is in beta right now, while I am finishing up 85 emulation, and it will be better than Zip86, since I am just using the code that Kirk gives with his readme to decompress it, along with some BomberBloke page-swapping code that I was too lazy to write myself. Check it out on my website. Oh, and everybody who tries the beta, e-mail me with any bugs or suggestions.
Thanks!

Would it be possible to write a BASIC program, transfer it to computer, use an uncompiler to get the source code, and put it in the compressor to get low mem BASIC programs? Or am I insane?

You are insane or am I insane??? I doubt there is a plug-in for the ti-graphling program and instead of sending the program to your computer why dont you just complie on your computer. Also if anyone was wondering to help me make a BASIC to ASM compiler any help would be appreciated!!! and right now I am coming up with a C complier on the 86 I know I know you might come up with BS like it only works on the 68000 processor and crap like that but I'm almost done with it and it almost works hahaha!!!
