AMS v2.04 for TI-89 and TI-92+ Released
Posted by Eric on 7 June 2000, 23:51 GMT

Reno notified us that TI has recently released the new version of the TI-89/92+ internal software. The new version includes an increased RAM limit for ASM programs (8K to 24K), language improvements, and other enhancements. Download AMS v2.04 for the TI-89 and TI-92+.

Update (Nick): I will say this once and once only:
IF YOU PUT AMS V2.04 ON YOUR CALCULATOR, WE HOLD ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSIBILITY TO ANY FUNCTIONALITY OF THE PROGRAMS YOU DOWNLOAD FROM THIS SITE. VERY FEW, IF ANY, ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS, WILL PROBABLY WORK. TI HAS BEEN KNOWN TO DECREASE COMPATIBILITY WITH EVERY SINGLE ROM VERSION AND THEIR "ENHANCEMENTS" USUALLY MEAN THAT ASSEMBLY PROGRAM LIMITATIONS HAVE BEEN PUT IN. DO NOT ASK US WHEN AUTHORS WILL PUT IN SUPPORT FOR V2.04: THAT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE AUTHORS ALONE.
Thank you. :)

Update (Nathan): Okay, I know everyone's too lazy to do it themselves, so I'll just say that I upgraded to AMS 2.04, and DoorsOS II v0.96 installs, but doesn't work (Address error when trying to run Doors). Patrick Davidson informed us that Universal OS works perfectly under this crazy new AMS version, but only under hardware v1.00. So now you've been warned, and as usual, we don't want to hear about it if your programs don't work. Ask the authors, not us. Thank you. :)

Update Purple Monkey Dishwasher (Nick): I've gotten about six or seven emails that this ROM version in fact does transfer over successfully with a black link. Some people were, however, complaining about speed issues.

Double Update Action (Nick): Matt Baum gave me an email showing a brief list of programs and their functionality under this new AMS. It might be of help to some of you.

hey it looks like 2.04 on hw1 adds more archive mem, like having hw1 ams2.03 with maxmem

Cool... I guess we won't have a barrage of voided warranties anymore. :-)

Ummm, I guess I don't know how to archive stuff, cause I could only get the FlashROM fiulled up until 380k were left on the FlashROM...

Once again, some idiot(i'm not saying anything about anyone, and i'm saying that in the nicest possible way)
Looked at his mem box, saw that there was about 700K of mem free, and thought that he could use them. But if that person(I'm not pointing any fingers) archives stuff until it cannot archive any more, he would be left with about 380K of memory free. This is just like 2.03, where HW1 users have much less memory than HW2.
I still use 2.03 with maxmem, it's worth it. Even though them HW2 people have the latest updates from TI, I'm still glad that I got my HW1 because most developers seem to prefer it for ASM programming.

OK , there's a big confusion here.
WHY people thinks that HW1 calculators has only 384kb of flash rom when upgrading to ams 2.03 ? only some (HW1)TI89 would only have 384kb of mem.

I:
Ams2.03 HW1 calc, and I use 450kb of archive mem.
Everything works fine, and I don't use maxmem .

Hmm, guess not then. I assumed you had one of the freak Boot Loaders, and that was causing the erratic behaviour of your FlashROM. But since you're one of the "idiots" and don't know how to read the Mem screen....

eh??
In the mem screen it says 702kb of free archive mem, but it's not true. That's what I just discovered today...thanks to Aurora Boriales (just ruined my day...night).

that's all.

I'm one of those idiots. It's hard to admit, but it's the truth. I always though that ams2.03 increased my TI89 HW1 memory.......(read my post below....)I'm upgrading now, no matters what the f#@ºx happens with compatibility.

uh, I hate my own old posts.
I just upgraded to 2.04, memory is the same... I sent sma and chaos, then archived many copies in diferent folders... it just cannot overpass the 380 kb...

for those of you who haven't figured this out yet, MAXMEM for ams 2.03 allows you to use ALL 720k of archive. an alternative...if anyone read my posting at the very top, is to install any flash-app, that also allows you to use the full 720k, minus what the flash app takes, so strangely enough you gain mem by installing it

ams2.04 seems a bit faster than 2.03, especially in the menus and varlink screen...anybody else notice this?

It's the same AMS 2.03. I don't think this will increase as TI doesn't feel like optimizing their code...

2.04 is faster than 2.03, but the funny thing is, 1.00 was faster than 2.03 too. TI made a mistake or something in 2.03 that made it slow, but they fixed it in 2.04.
