Fast Keyboard v1.2 by Jeff Flanigan
Posted by Nick on 14 May 2000, 16:59 GMT

This is an old program, but it just got updated and it needs to be mentioned. Quite badly.

Jeff Flanigan has written a program called Fast Keyboard v1.2. This delicious bit of coding speeds up the autorepeat of your keyboard so you can move the cursor faster, delete things faster, etc. I've always wanted to see this on the 89 - a way to change the repeat rate - and I'm very, very pleased to see something like this released. This new version has a simple bug fix, but the program itself is definitely worth a download. It even works if you turn your calculator off and back on again - you run fastkbd() again to uninstall it. Download this program for the 89 and the 92 Plus.

Well, I already found a program for the TI-89 a while ago that could spead up the auto repeat on the 89. That program helped a lot, because the auto repeat is so slow on the 89. Also, it was disabled when you turn the calc off. Maybe this program isn't like that. I still have to test it. Hopefully, since this program with auto repeat got to make the news, then this may be better.

No, you can turn the calculator off, but it won't reset it.

The strange part is that I already made a smaller program like this, but I didn't post it at ticalc.org. It seems to work the same way, though... the program's amazingly similar to mine.

What exactly was the bug? Worked A-0K for me, 1.O and 1.1.

Did anyone ever mention this program is just the most useful thing ever? I even had the problem of slow scrolling on my Calculus test. Now that I downloaded this, I don't even know how I was able to handle such a slow repeat rate.

PORT THIS TO THE 83+ PLZ!!!
Haha, j/k... I don't actually own an 89 (or an 83+), but my friend who does says that this program is very helpful. I think it's great that calc programming still hasn't hasn't become just about games; apparently a few people still actually *program.*
btw, someone needs to calculate how much time the faster key repeat actually saves you... ;P

If people didn't "program," we wouldn't have all those cool shells, emulators, compilers, and all that other stuff. :-)

I found a prob with this program and the lastest DoorsOs. If you hold down the up or down key to scroll through the files in doors it crashes. Please fix:)
