The Impossible Game
Posted by Travis on 14 August 2010, 21:27 GMT

Screenshot of The Impossible GameBrian Coventry has brought The Impossible Game from the Xbox 360 and iPhone over to the TI-83 Plus SE/TI-84 Plus series. The very simple yet surprisingly addictive objective of The Impossible Game is to time a long series of jumps to avoid landing on pits and spikes. Be ready for a challenge: While the game itself lasts around 90 seconds in length, it is said that it could take hours to accomplish a full successful run. This version includes both the original Xbox and iPod levels and features extremely smooth animation.

Nice to see this finally featured. It's a great game.
As for taking hours to complete, I must concur. In fact, I'm not sure I've even finished it myself.
Good job thepenguin77!

I have intentions of taking this to the TI-89 family... is source code available?

Yes, source code is included in the package.

Um... no, it's not. There's a .8xp file, a .z80 file, the .gif, and the readme.

The .z80 file is the source code. It is a text file that contains assembly code source.

Sure enough... I just had to open it with the right text editor (it was giving me gibberish when I opened it in Notepad).

Gibberish? More likely is that it's Unix (also Linux) line format, which means the file looks like one line in Notepad.

Ok, sorry. Missed your comment. I used notepad. So I don't see why it wouldn't open with notepad.

I just downloaded it myself. Notepad worked fine.

Then your copy of Notepad must be broken. Reinstall Windows.

lol XD

anyways... in the rare case that you are serious... just uninstall notepad, then reinstall it from the windows xp cd...

or you can download notepad 2.0 which is awesome for programming...

Yeah my concern is that two people using Windows including ThePenguin77 himself could open the z80 file fine. I, myself, could open the file fine, too.

z80 files are pretty much txt files with a different extension anyway.

Go for it. It's honestly not that hard of a game to make.
Actually you are in luck, I just posted some of the inner working explanations on Cemetech. I put the url in URL, I don't know where it will appear, but it's there.

Oh, and thanks for the back to school game feature. I'm sure this will get it a lot more downloads than it would otherwise.

Speaking of great games by Brian, I'm surprised these two haven't been featured yet as well:

well... probably because the missile game crashes on DCS
and is fairly simple, while orbit is a bit too simple...

but i must say that they sure are fun...
i still have orbit on my calc :P

not missile though... since it crashes everytime i quit :/

Which isn't my fault. It doesn't even crash when run from Ti-OS. It was a slight overlook by Kerm. Kerm fixed it though. Eventually I'll have to update Missile and fix it as well.

I didn't really think of them either. It's more like:
*plays a game* "I have to make this!"

I believe the most recent beta of DCS (6.9.1) fixes this issue. Let's see, with my high scores of 69 (Missile) and 36 (Orbit) has come a lot of time spent playing such wonderful games. Currently my friend and I both have 69s on Missile and are attempting to best each other, but we haven't yet. I'm sure they'll both provide many more hours of fun for me. =)

He may have done a tool-assisted run with WabbitEmu (the latest version lets you play at 1% speed), but again, he might just be very very good at the game. :P

Nope, I wouldn't consider it a highscore if I cheated.

Though I did get a 172 in wabbitEmu on 25% :P
