Oh well I guess older OSes will still be avaliable on various french TI sites or less legal english sources.

I kinda like the new additions, though. This time, despite breaking some of my old games, they added signifiant changes compared to older OSes updates. I am also glad they let us turn OFF MathPrint, so when playing games that uses text routines a lot, they will run at the same speed as older OSes

yup. I tried Illusiat 13: The Last Chapter v.0.90b on this OS with MathPrint turned OFF and it ran at same speed as on any other 84 OS. With the option turned ON, certain animations ran up to four times slower. It was patheticly slow.

but the major question is...

are assembly programs and applications affected?

It depends. They are affected more or less in the same way as BASIC is affected, and dealing with the homescreen has become far more complicated.

I believe that Daniel Thorneycroft (tifreak8x) found the opposite with Pokemon Purple, ie, it ran unplayably slowly even in Classic mode.

Assembly programmers should try adding the following code to the start of their programs to see if this fixes issues, including speed.
res 5, (iy+44h) ; This is the flag that controls MathPrint
b_call(_ClrScrn) ; This is important.
b_call(_HomeUp) ; This is optional.
There may be a system entry point that needs to be used to disable MathPrint properly instead of simply resetting the flag. Or, there may not.

It works.

If MP is allready disabled, no problem.

If MP is enabled, the program disables it.
But, depending on the keys pressed after the end of the program, some garbage characters are displayed at the current line.

No problem for the next line (after pressing Enter).

So the calculator didn't crash, but the system seems to be in an "unclean" state, just after MP has been disabled.

I downloaded the new OS, and have had no problems with any of my programs. One thing i did notice is the trick with Output(1,1,"" doesn't work anymore. It will still say "Done". Also, loops are somehow faster. With the old OS, it was struggling to get 25 loops per second. Now, its over 35 loops.

A slightly faster and less memory consuming way of getting rid of Done that may still work is:
:"[space]
as the last line

Yea, it gets rid of the "Done" but the cursor is on the second row.

What you do is on the last 2 lines, do
:ClrHome
:Output(1,1,"
That gets rid of the Done and keeps the cursor on the first row.

With about 5 minutes of experimentation, I would have to say that the best feature of this is the entry history. I recommend the download.

Well, first off, what exactly is a bcall? I mean, I program, but I've never herd of a bcall.

And If it's the stuff in the catalog, it would be great if someone came out with a list of what they are and what they do...

That's because you program BASIC. BCalls are relevant only to ASM programmers; they're basically function calls like Disp( or Line( or ClrHome (a massive oversimplification, but still). Stop by somewhere like Cemetech (www.cemetech.net) or Revsoft if you're interested in talking to some ASM programmers about learning.

I recall similar menus in other calculators (while watching their owners using them).

you are probably talking about either TI-85 or TI-86

they have menus like that that come out from the bottom all over...

(i have a TI-85 as well...)

p.s. i installed it on my calc... it seems to be pretty nice! the recall system is much much better... it would seem that you can keep going back to the very beginning even after you press clear... (only way to get rid of them is through reset and clear entry)

other then that... it pretty much the same... its still not as good as app4math's typing method speed...

but its a lot better in many many ways...

Has anyone else tried to download this new OS into a TiNspire with the TI-84 keyboard installed? Using the USB connection I get a 'Unrecognized USB protocol' error. Using the silver cable, it says that the calculator does not support this type of file.

I have no problem downloading other files.

it will only work with the actual TI-84 hardware...

You can't update the 84+ system included in the Nspire OS. (or rather, you can't update it this way)

My guess is that the Nspire 84+ emulator won't be able to run a true unpatched 84+ system correctly.
A true TI-84+ can't run the special OSes designed for the Nspire 84+ emulator either (the screen just remains blank).

Indeed, the systems used by this emulator are using invalid z80 instructions to interface with the Nspire hardware.

0.46, 2.21, 2.22, 2.30, 2.40, 2.41, 2.43, 2.53MP OSes are only for the real TI-84+ hardware.

2.42, 2.44, 2.46, 2.48 OSes are only for the 84+ emulator included in the Nspire.
