Noshell Released
Posted by Michael on 21 June 2007, 21:56 GMT

Brandon Wilson has released a revolutionary new flash shell for the 83+ series called Noshell (pronounced nosh-ell). Simply stated, Noshell runs anything.

Regardless of whether a program is ASM or BASIC, archived or in RAM, for MirageOS or for ION, Noshell will execute anything from the homescreen in the conventional prgmNAME syntax. Furthermore, it optionally allows for writeback, ensuring that high scores in games are saved.

Impressive turnaround on this shell, Brandon! Zero to ticalc.org frontpage in about a week. :) Good job.

Um, Brandon was decidedly not a zero before this program was released. :)

Didn't you write a shell a while ago?
I guess if you did it would have been featured by now.

How about this? Do not eat yellow snow. I think that's pretty important to know.

Wow, these new discussion boards are the only place to get anyone' attention anymore, as the old ones are filled. So here goes:

Remember Antidisassemblage? Yes, it still has some bugs, but now everything works until you try to use word values; but I am fixing it up now. If anybody is interested in developing stuff in antidisassemblage and making some great includes for it, let me know.

Also, I am going to design a better language that stomps what I did before by using techniques that have never been done befoe (for all I know) (though I still think it's worth saving). If you are interested in that, let me know.

And seriously, good job on the whole noshell thing :-)

Argh! I tried Squirrelbox about 8 months ago. It broke my 84+SE (yes, I've tried everything) to make a simple moving program, so I've been stuck with an 83+ and no link cable ever since.

that's because 8 months ago it still had all those bugs from 2 years ago. Now even the word values should work right. BTW, if there are any significant differences between the 83+ and 84+ as far as assembly is concerned, that's because we need to make some macros for the 84+; were you using stuff defined for the 83+?

"broke" -- do you mean physically or software wise?

If you mean it's corrupt I can try to tell you how to force memory clear and/or OS reinstall.

Also, if you haven't tampered with the insides (opened it), you can call TI-cares and they were very nice about replacing my 83+SE when a game corrupted it beyond repair.

I think he was going to write one (Windows, I think it was going to be called), but he must've given up on it! :D

Yes, it's about time somebody thought of this idea. I do not know who would NOT prefer this idea to others! Hey Brandon, if it makes any difference, I think that it would be GREAT if you added in some of those features that are grayed out, that would just make this APP that much better! Good job.

Amazing! I can't wait to grab my 84+ when I get back for college to try it! The one thing I like about Mirage is the hidden programs -- my calc can look blank and be full...

Any idea when there will be an update to msd8x? another test for print8x?

There's sure no shortage of ideas out there...and he's come up with some great ones...

There is a great utility to hide or unhide (as well as lock and unlock, I beleive) programs. Do a search and you should find it here at ticalc.opg. TI-83+ / 84+ name is is prgmPROTECT and prgmUNPROT.

Can you still run the hidden programs? That'd be cool if you could.

If only TI included this; running archived and Mirage from the homescreen sounds awesome:)
Too bad someone nabbed my calc :(
