TiLP v1.04 Released
Posted by Michael on 17 May 2007, 18:45 GMT

Yet another version of the famous PC linking software TiLP has been released. Version 1.04 is available for UNIX and Windows. This version's main feature is that sending an operating system to an 83+ now works.

There is also a new version of TiEmu out, now called TiEmu3 v3.00.

Thanks for an official release! Just the other day, I was messing with the svn sources, trying to build it for OS X... It didn't quite want to build (looked like I got an unclean version from svn or something), so I put it on the back burner... Then this release comes along. Builds and works great on OS X 10.4.9, with my 83+, 84+SE, and 89Ti with both the SilverLink and Direct USB (where applicable). I'm still using the svn libti*s because they seem to be working OK. :)

So libusb actually works for you on OS X? That's great news! (Last time someone tried, he couldn't get libusb to work.) What version of libusb are you using (best answered with a URL ;-) )?

Well, I actually installed it with MacPorts.

hawkeye:~ ajanata$ port search libusb
libusb devel/libusb 0.1.12 Library providing access to USB devices

Looking at their SVN, the port is just the upstream libusb 0.1.12 with no patches. So it works out of the box now, that's great!

Romain emailed me last night asking if I could make a guide on how I did it; I just emailed it. It's actually rather straightforward, there are just a lot of packages to compile, and the libti* libraries can't find eachother and don't like NLS. A couple little tweaks to the ./configure lines and they're happy.

Could you send it to me? I'd compile it myself, but I have, in the past, PERMANENTLY screwed up SDL and GTK compilation, so I can't compile it. My email is on my account page.

I can't send you anything but the libti* and TiLP, because MacPorts did everything else, and I don't know what all files it needs. Have you tried using MacPorts to install it?

Besides that, do you have an Intel Mac? If you don't, it's out of the question anyway.

I unfortunately don't know enough to make proper packages of the libraries and TiLP, or I'd do so... I might play around one of these days when I have time, as I'm sure that'd be nice for them to be able to offer for download. :)

Actually, after playing with port and man port for a bit, I think I figured out how to make it generate installation packages for everything. If I can figure out how to make a nice little .app bundle for TiLP and make an installer for it, I might be able to throw together a nice installer for everything. I'll see what I can do. :)

>_< Gyaaaaaaaahh! Why does EVERYONE make such a fuss about Intel!

(More importantly, why are all the best things for Intel only....)

Or could you just send me the compiled application, itself?

It's not "making a fuss" about Intel - I think he means that it won't work on a PPC Mac.

It should work on PPC, just I can't get it to cross-compile properly.

Sending you an Intel UNIX binary isn't going to do you any good, I'm afraid. I have no idea how to make it cross-compile. I'm not a Mac developer, I'm afraid.

rom8x is a DOS program so no USB support. There is just one way: TiLP2.

rom8x makes AppVars on your calculator that can be transferred with any linking software. Then, you feed the AppVars into the DOS program, which then "compiles" a minimum ROM image, which can be linked with an OS on your computer. If you can't get TiLP2 to work and all you have is a USB link, then rom8x is the only way. I've used it on my 84+BE, and it works great.

"This application has failed to start because libglib-2.0-0.dll was not found."
And GTK *was* installed. Any ideas?

That sounds like too many installations of GTK+. There should be exactly one, if there's multiple ones, they conflict like that. Uninstall all of them, then search for DLL names like that one which normally belong to GTK+ and get rid of those and then install the latest one from http://gladewin32.sourceforge.net and it will just work.

For some reason, it thinks my TI83 rom (v1.07) is a TI92!

And this is the point where I realize the program in question is Tiemu, and not Tilemu, despite the deceptively similar names, and dependency on GTK.
