Metroid II: Evolution
Posted by Michael on 20 August 2006, 20:43 GMT

[Metroid II] Kevin Ouellet and Fred Sparks have teamed up to produce a sequel to Fred's original Metroid clone for the 83+. Their efforts have yielded Metroid II: Evolution v1.02. Metroid II features many of the great items from the original Metroid game. As with the rest of Kevin's BASIC games, Metroid II is both detailed as well as very taxing on your free memory. Be sure to read the aptly titled readme file in the zip.

Kevin does it again! How many featured programs does he have now?
This might be something worth checking out...

This is a great game. I downloaded it a few weeks ago, played it, and almost beat it but I couldn't beat the final boss.

Anyway, it takes up a lot of memory. but it is well worth it (to me, anyway). Graphics are superb; gameplay is excellent. Key detection is a little slow though, but overall, this is a great game. Nice job, Kevin :).

Also, Metroid fans, be sure to check out the original Metroid for the TI-83+, and Metroid Pure (both by CDI/Fred).

Is there a way for this game to be re-programmed in TI-89 BASIC so that you can play it on 68K calcs? Or is it the same already. I'm assuming that if it is, then it would also be compatable with the titanium.

I don't know about 89 basic, but I do know that a port is unlikey. 83 basic is a completely different language, and this program requires x-lib to function.

Well, 89 BASIC is much more powerful than the z80 BASIC. You might be able to remake this game for the 89 without the need for libs, though I don't know what kind of speed you would get out of it.

oh yeah, I forgot about x-lib. oh well, when I got my Titanium, I skipped BASIC and took on c, so I don't know it very well. It seems similar though.

I agree with everyone else this is a great game and hard to beat cause I'm still not done. This is a perfect example of great Xbasic programming.
