How much is that DAWG in the window? Free!
Posted by Michael on 11 April 2006, 00:29 GMT

[DAWG] Kirk Meyer has made his flash application DAWG now freely available. Previously this application was sold on the TI Online Store for $7. DAWG is a spell checker for the TI-83 Plus series. It contains a database of over 40,000 words, including my personal favorite, platypusary. In addition to simply checking the spelling of American English words, it can find anagrams and assist in the solving of crossword puzzles.

Update: It should be mentioned that TI flash applications are now free as well, including ones that were previously $7 on their online store.

Wow! I never knew finding anagrams of random words could be so fun! (by the way, it's kind of annoying that you can't anagram letters into multiple words unless you look at the list of words you can spell with those letters for a while and figure out what combination of them will use up all the letters)

No!!!! My COM ports are dead! My daughter board was fried the other day, destroying my PCI slots, and it seems my COM ports are dead as well!!! If I can dig up my gray USB cord I may be in business...

Buy a Mac. No COM ports to worry about.

Sad. My motherboard has two COM ports, and right now I'm using both of them.

You'll never get my COM ports. NEVER!

Yeah yeah, I hear you. But if I got a Mac, I would be harder to use linux. What I really need is a new motherboard. My current one is old anyways (Pentium II).

Not really - I dual-boot Ubuntu very easily.

Now the Intel Macs haven't been figured out yet, so that may be a problem.

Yes. I saw that the day it came out. You were talking about Linux, I was talking about Linux. Linux doesn't run in Boot Camp - yet.

It does. And people also got it to run without Boot Camp.

Linux doesn't need bootcamp. Most Linux Distros include or support "elilo" That EFI Linux Loader. Boot camp not required.

I know, but there's not as much support for macs in the linux community, most Linux users are on PCs. No, I prefer a PC over a Mac (even if I do prefer MacOS over Windows.)

It might...actually, knowing all the stuff TI is putting into it, I wouldn't be too surprised if it had one built in to the text editor.

Yes, it's a spelling dictionary, not word definitions. Those take a considerable amount of space, even if you do only selected words and abbreviate heavily. (Notice how many people already complain about the large size.)

The screenshot is old. I have tried a few times to have it removed... In any case, I have been working on adding some built-in word games on and off but there's nothing to show yet.
