TI-83 Plus BASIC Math Subdirectories
Posted by Michael on 7 February 2006, 05:35 GMT

In order to better organize our archives, we have added some subfolders to the TI-83 Plus BASIC Math Programs directory. We have created algebra, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry folders. There is also now a special folder for those quintessential BASIC programs, quadratic solvers. Please make sure you upload your mathematics programs to the proper folder. General/multipurpose math programs and those in topics not covered by a subfolder will remain in the general math folder.

A quick browse of that folder suggests some other folders for the following:

Units
Stats
Factoring
base converters
My superfabulous gargantuan math package that does everything and more.

Those are the exact same directories that are on my todo list for further subdividing. :-) Althouhg I'm not sure about factoring since factoring is in two distinct forms (factoring integers and factoring polyomials.) What I should really do is have a number theory folder, but nobody will know to look in there for stuff...

lol, I agree about that last one. There are way too many "do-it-all" math packages...at least they can be useful sometimes, unlike the quadratic solvers.

I suppose they might be useful. I've never tried any of them, but I think that I'd end up spending more time navigating a large menu system than actually doing the intended math.

That and I don't have an 83.

lol, I made a base converter, that does 67 diff conversions, and then TI released a flash app version a VERY short time later... <_<

Oh well, mine is in BASIC, and is still cool. :D

instead of base converter, why not just "conversions" period?

maybe, but I'm not sure. if I wanted a units program and saw folder called conversions, it'd be fairly obvious to look there. I'm not sure it would be as obvious if I wanted something for hexadecimal to decimal.

Heh.. TI's site shows the update, but the info page still shows 1.18. Any changes in this new OS?.. if it's only the restriction thing that was in the 84 family, I don't think I'm going to download it.

Wow.. it's been out since January 16 according to the site, also. That's messed up how no one caught it until now.

Now the BASIC Games section just needs to be organized into "bad", "worse", and "horrible." :)

I would have to disagree because some of the BASIC games are pretty good.

OK, OK...There could also be an "Author Thinks it's Decent" catagory...Or perhaps just a "Decent" catagory.

Authors always think their games are decent. Otherwise they wouldn't feel compelled to clog the archives with their "masterpieces".

No, no, no - "unplayable", "really bad", "bad", and "Kevin Ouellete". ;-)

(Not to mention the games by kalan_vod, and the BASIC Elite, and occasional others who actually do produce good games).

Btw in my next games, when you run them for the first time you'll be asked to type in my last name before being able to run them. If u spell it correctly it will go immediately to the game, however if u don't you'll be greeted by a RAM cleared message. ;) Also next people to spell my name incorrectly will be banned from Omnimaga forums ;)

j/k

Lol, sorry about that. ;-)

Actually a better grouping would be "Kevin Ouellet" and "everything else". <rhetorical_question> Guess which directory most people would download from? </rhetorical_question>
