Martian Develops SourceCoder; Conquers BASIClings
Posted by Michael on 6 November 2005, 23:20 GMT

Kerm Martian has created a new web service called SourceCoder. On the SourceCoder page, you can select a *.83p or *.8xp TI-83/83+/84+ BASIC program and upload it. SourceCoder then shows you the source code in human readable format. There are additional options for HTML or phpBBCode/InvisionBBCode, ostensibly to aid in collaborative BASIC debugging discussions. It also accepts *.8xi files (Pic0-Pic9 picture variables) and converts them to GIF and ASCII art.

The site is already slow, so please be patient with SourceCoder.

Wow thats an awsome utility. Now I dont have to wait 5 minutes to look at a basic source code. That is usually why I download basic programs. Nice work Kerm

Awesome site. It has great capabilities as well. Now all I need left is an emulator that can play .8xp files on my PC. I hope to see more great work from you in the future.

...and then you could add a web-based emulator...

No, jk. Great work!

Heh, shhhhh... They don't know that yet :)

SourceCoder is cool, and saves me the trouble of using Graphlink and is useful just so I don't have to use VTi to look at BASIC source.

Yeah, I created it in the first place because I find it easier to debug on paper than onscreen. Hopefully it helps those of you who have the same preference. :)

All right, Kerm: you win! I tried to make my file parsing work and get it featured here but you had a 7-month head start :-D

I'll beat ya next time :P

kinda stupid, why not set graphlink as the program to open them with... or right click in windows explorer

Because there might be instances where you want other people without the graphlink software to be able to see your source without all kinds of weird ASCII renderings.

Hey, it's Will White (back from the dead ;) ) Anyways, why not add 73,82,85, and 86 support. They're all the same processor family. I could definitely help with the 86 stuff - though you'd probably not need any :) It kinda sucks that the 83/+/Se series won out over the rest, but that's just my $0.02 (better resolution = better graphics)

The problem is just the sheer time required to do the conversions and type in the tables. Feel free to post on my forum if you'd be willing to help.

I see that in hex, a TI-86 Basic tokenized file looks almost randomized :p (not really) A table of Basic command opcodes is a first step. It's pretty amazing that this is done at all without direct help from TI.
