What would be considered a strategy game?

Hmm...a calc version of Myst...that's an interesting idea... *starts coding* (Yes, I know you were only using it as an example.)

Weren't all the graphics in Myst pre-rendered? Sounds kind of like some glorified HyperStudio.

Myst actually used HyperCard for its engine, I think. And Myst is not a strategy game. Maybe an adventure game or puzzle game.

Ya--Myst uses pre-rendered, ray-traced images.

Well, actually not any more. Beginning with Myst Uru, the rendering is done in real time. Myst is an extremely addictive, frustrating, yet rewarding game. I would describe it as a an exploration/puzzle solving game.

Don't worry the definition of a strategy game that will be used for this contest will be released on September 1st, when the official rules are posted.

it can be everything from:
card game: magic-cards, pokémon-cards, digimon...
board game: chess, risk, ...
turn based strategy: ?
real time strategy: age of empires, ...

eventhough BASIC is too slow to make the last one
you still have a lot of possibility's

An example of a turn-based strategy game would be Civilization. And I am working on a simplified RTS in basic. It won't be as complex as AOE, but it should still involve interesting strategies. It's the sequel to my extremely simplistic game Dragon.

Kerm did Civilization simulator and it was pretty cool. Only two problems I've encountered is that it was extremly slow for loading maps so if you accidentally hit the wrong key you reloaded the map and had to wait several minutes to finish loading and you were extremly limited in time to build a civilisation
