Assembly Arrives to the TI-73
Posted by Magnus on 16 March 2005, 21:04 GMT

Michael Vincent has released Mallard, the first assembly shell for the TI-73. Until now, the 73 was limited to only BASIC and flash applications. Mallard v0.1 requires a TI-73 or TI-73 Explorer running OS 1.60. It is installed via a hacked backup file, similar to the great 85 ZShell. Because TI Connect does not properly handle 73 backup files, TiLP is required for installation. Mallard is currently an experimental beta version; it may still be unstable.

We have also added 73 ASM folders to our archives.

Update: Mallard v0.2 has been released.

This sound very promising. Maybe someday Dying Eyes, Joltima and Narkemen will be ported to those calcs. The only downside is that the ASM version of WFRNG 83+ use a romcall that the 73 doesn't have so porting it to the 73 would be almost impossible.

Being a news editor at ticalc.org might not prohibit him from posting news about his own programs, of course as long as he don't review his own pogroms (remember that weird word in the WFRNG readme :))

If anyone can verify that this file works, then I'll go upload the Joltima I just ported.

(see Web Page link for the file...)

Okay... Joltima has finally been ported! Yay!

Wait for it to appear soon in the file archives!

Send them to calcgames.org too please. We'll get them in in no time... Especially since Morgan's on break this week, I don't have to feel guilty about doing his job. :P </shameless_plug>

Calcgames.org looks like complete and utter junk to me. I won't post anything there.

Not so much the color scheme or page style... More like the lack of any content.

Does the TI-73 have an 8.8k program size limit?

I believe Michael said that it does not. Possibly because TI wasn't counting on an asm shell for the 73.

Would someone be kind enough to send me a .73d flash debugger file with Mallard preinstalled?

I'm pretty sure you can't use it in the debugger, he had a lot of problems getting it to work and in the end gave up I believe... In fact, he went out and bought a 73 again to develop with. :|

OK then, I must not have been around when you got it to work then. :) I can just remember you trying and failing to get it loaded.

Works fine in TilEm :)
Unfortunately you have to use TiLP to send it :(

Of course not; it's TilEm's problem. Specifically, TilEm trying to send a backup file will either get rejected by the virtual calculator, or, more likely, cause it to reset itself. TiLP works fine, but it would be nicer not to have to use it.

I don't like TiLP. It randomly crashes on me, not like TI Connect. Maybe its just my computer though...
