TI Connect v1.6 Released
Posted by Michael on 24 January 2005, 03:35 GMT

TI has finally released version 1.6 of their TI Connect linking software. Most of the changes appear to be nonvisible to the user. Some notable idiosyncrasies remain, such as the warning that firewalls may interfere with linking.

Those of you with a 84+/84+ SE will also want to download the newly released v2.30 operating system.

Heh, I was the one who emailed TI-Cares and informed that they uploaded the wrong file. When they replied, they were like, "We have recently made changes to our website, causing everything to be disorganized. Thank you for informing us of our server problem. The problem has been corrected, and TI Connect 1.6 is now available for download." That's TI for you.

*grumble* I spent a few hours downloading "1.6" only to find out that it was, in fact, 1.5.3. Didn't they do this with OS 1.18 for the 83+ too?

So what did change with this new OS? Anything that shocks the developer? :)

v2.30 was very slow on my TI84 Plus. Graphing took ages, like on an 83! Simple graphs like Y=X^2 took about twice as long as they would usually do, and a more compicated graph like tan(tan(x)) was like ten times as slow! I removed all apps and progs to make sure they didn;t cause the problem, but it didn't help
...
I'm back to 2.22 now
Did anyone else experience this issue?

Stan.

Yeah I did, It is very annoying. Are there any added benefits for using it? Also does anyone else with the 84+ notice that TVF doesn't work It doesn't seem to be able to understand the command to draw the speech boxes.

Well, I didn't notice that, but Mirage was much slower, too... Really weird.

And no, I couldn't find any changelogs or the like on the TI website...

Does anyone know what the difference between the original 2.21 and the soon followed 2.22 is?

I didn't notice any difference...

Regards,
Stan.

They may have added support for the presentation adapter (see link) but I don't know for sure, and I don't own an 84+ with which to test anything.

Put it in the link! I'm too lazy to copy and paste.
Three cheers for procrastination!

Hey can't, the URL is longer than the maximum length allowed for the link (that's why the ".html" got truncated).

I noticed that it was extremely slow too. I decided to try out the new OS, well since it is new, and I have came to the conclusion: Go back to v2.22!

I tried a pretty complex graph: Sin(Cos(Tan(X))) and broughed my friends 84+ with OS v2.22 and mine was 1/3 of the way done when his was finished!!! That should not be when upgrading to a new OS.

If you make the Xres value in the window menu about 2 it speeds graphing up without too much loss of data.

But it still shouldn't be slower than a previous OS version with the same settings...

For TI-84+ Users with v2.30 OS: Do you HAVE to have TI-Connect v1.6 to send stuff to your calculator? I like the program editor in v1.5b and i don't want to lose it, so i haven't upgraded TI-Connect ever. I was just wondering if TI-Connect 1.6 is needed to send stuff to an 84+ with the new OS.

ok good. i probably won't update ticonnect anyways, cus i like the program editor. i don't use it much anymore cus im getting started on asm, but once in a while i feel the need to get back to programming something that i actually know what im doing.

ill probably try out 2.30 for a little while, see how bad it is (if it is really slow, like i have heard) and then revert back to 2.22.

Who wants to bet the fairly soon TI will come out with a 2.31 OS or something that will correct v2.30?
Sounds like another poll idea to me!

I haven't had to worry about losing the program editor because my macintosh's OS is to old to upgrade it's only 9.7 not 10.something or other. ; )

That, and, TI Connect for Mac already has the program editor. It's just the Windows version that doesn't.

Things like that piss me off!
I just got the computer cable for my cell phone in the mail the other day. It said that it would let me download stuff from my computer onto my phone, and vice-versa. Boy, was I wrong. It turns out that Motorola makes the software so providers can change what users can and can't do. My current provider is Verizon, who insists that I pay money to put picutes and games on MY phone! That means $6 to play Tetris!
Greedy bastards ruin it for everyone.

Well now, I guess you'll have to bring your phone AND calc with you whenever you leave home. ;)
