TI Connect v1.6 Released
Posted by Michael on 24 January 2005, 03:35 GMT

TI has finally released version 1.6 of their TI Connect linking software. Most of the changes appear to be nonvisible to the user. Some notable idiosyncrasies remain, such as the warning that firewalls may interfere with linking.

Those of you with a 84+/84+ SE will also want to download the newly released v2.30 operating system.

I just upgraded to 1.6. Its pretty much the same. I have an 83+ I wonder if they're gonna come out with a new 83+ OS. I also dont understand why it went from 2.22 to 2.30.
Go figure!

I don't think I want to upgrade to v1.6... I don't like warnings...

At least linking doesn't interfere with firewalls...

Does it have IRQ monitoring so that it doesn't randomly search through COM ports and disconnect my modem? Does it still let you download any APP without paying for them like 1.5?

I have absolutely NO idea why TI Connect 1.6 is now compatible with Windows XP SP2...version 1.5.3 was just as compatible.

I didn't have to reboot to install it (under XP), which I believe is an improvement. :-)

Yeah, why didn't they just name it 2.23? Maybe they made some major changes and changed it to 2.30 becuase it was a large update or something.

I have yet to comprehend the method behind the madness of version numbers. IS there even a method, or does it vary for every programmer?

I don't know, I think we all just make up our own way.

Every time I add several new things to a program, I check it and make sure the entire program works. When I've fixed it to the point that it does, I increase the version number by 0.1. Sometimes, however, I don't get to a computer in time, and I continue programming, so released programs may end up increased by .2 or more. (Like what happened to Timerize 68k; I released 1.4 to replace 1.0, simply because I never uploaded 1.2 and 1.3. The interim versions are still on my computer.)

no, its ordered actually but it goes somewhat like this:

Minor updates, like beta to final or some minor fixes go up 1 tenth of a number.

Major releases go back to full numbers

but generally it varies from person to person. :)

Well, yeah, but the definitions of "minor update" and "major update" can vary a LOT between people. ;-)

I just spent 2 hrs downloading TiConnect 1.6 and then I got an "Error: The package could not run a program needed for installation to finish. Please contact your package vendor." And now, my computer won't let me uninstall v1.5.3, it says that I can only install currently installed programs. *Gives TI the finger*
