ticalc.org FAQ Created
Posted by Michael on 7 October 2004, 02:34 GMT

We are overwhelmingly thrilled to announce the addition of the ticalc.org FAQ to our Help section. Morgan has spent hours painstakingly compiling the most frequently asked questions regarding ticalc.org and their answers. If you have a question about an aspect of the site, be sure to check this resource first.

Morgan also wishes to point out this question as something that everyone should read, because it occurs quite frequently. I have specifically not mentioned the topic of that question so that curiosity will force a large number of you to click the link. That answers the frequently asked question of whether the news editor is evil.

Great!

There is one missing question however:

Q: How do I search for RPG using the search engine without getting an error?
A: Actually, you need to type more than 3 character to perform a search, so searching for the word RPG is impossible. Instead, type "rpg and rpg" without the quotes and it will work fine.

Thanks for the tip. :) This limit caused a problem when I was using a legitimate search term that happened to have less than 4 letters (I don't remember what it was).

But now that it's been mentioned, maybe the staff will plug the loophole. :(

Why are you required to enter more than 3 letters anyways?

because one, two, and three letter queries oftern return quite a lot of results. The processor on the server would have to devote more cycles to your search than the admin wants. Ofcourse I could be horribly wrong....

What about letting the user execute searches with only 1-3 characters, but put a limit on the number of results returned? Would that be feasible?

Sorry Michael, I know you wanted me to add that question, but you know..not professional and all. I might add something like:

"Does the News Editor have a personal bias against me, because my posts seem to be dissappearing everywhere?"

Also should point out the question in the above link, it is also a very common misconception:
