TI Online Store Updates
Posted by Michael on 27 August 2004, 04:19 GMT

TI's Online Store has been busy with updates recently. For the 83 Plus and 83 Plus Silver Edition, operating system v1.18 is out. 84 Plus and 84 Plus Silver Edition users will want to download v2.22.

[Pink faceplate and slidecase combo]But wait, there's more! 84+, 84+ SE, and 89 Titanium owners can purchase the kickstand slide case (available under Accessories in the store). For $9.99, it lets you prop up your calculator to four different "viewing angels" (celestial battery replacement not included). You can also find on the 84+ Accessories page faceplates of various colors for the Silver Edition, including a limited edition pink faceplate & slidecase package for $10.99.

Aw, cool. I read somewhere that a slide case for the 89T was adjustable. And before TI listed this as out-of-stock. Ti-keyboard and 89t, here I come!

But I mean, really, pink? Give me a break, and they say people don't buy calcs for their looks.

I think that having the faceplates is a good idea. Maybe it will become as popular as cellphone faceplates for the calculators! I would love it if they made an 89 faceplate : )

PINK?!?! ok, TI, I know you're trying to attract all audiences, but could you PLEASE leave PINK to "legally blonde"? I mean, really, PINK?!?!

My -0xFE cents...

Despite the fact that very few girls belong to this site, just about half the people that have graphing calcs are girls. So why not have pink.

Heck it might even get more girls involved...which would not be a bad thing.

I prefer to be able to drop my calculator with confidence. That is, not have a face plate fall off as it smashes into cement.
*Some of you are probably shocked at the thought of that happening to one of your calculators but it's a fact of life. ;-P

Or to have it be run over by a car and not have the faceplate pop off, breaking in two and shearing off two columns of button heads in the process?

I never thought of it that way. I saw that there was the faceplates and I thought that it was unfair that they have them and the 89ti did not. But that does sound bad.

Well, to solve that problem, I just wouldn't drop it in the street. :) I've taken mine on walks before (haha), but I've never dropped it while doing so. The only way I can think of it falling out is from the bad casing that some of them have. (I think the newer ones don't have this problem as much, or maybe it's just me)

Yeah, you can't argue with more female calc nerds ;-)

But still... I think having a pink faceplate is too much. Well, at least you won't see me with one. :)

I'm a female calc nerd!! :P and although I like the color pink, I'd rather have an electric blue faceplate for my 89. Besides, no one would take me seriously with pink (Legally Blonde) and the pink case is sold in a bundle pack with an 84 faceplate which would be a waste of $$$.

Actually, thera are quite a few girls from my school who come to this site. But those girls just go here to download games to play when the math teacher becomes boring; they don't even bother to read the calculatur manual. But of course I've never heard of any girl who does programming--BASIC or assembly. (Well, this one girl leeched off a BASIC program that her brother did, but that doesn't count.)

I can't say I read the manual on a daily basis but I have memorised most functions and the calculators key/function locations.

I haven't heard of ANYONE who atleast programs calculators in TI Basic that haven't read the manual.

Even if you just go to chapter 16 or look up the catalog.

The entire online manual including appendices,
The Sierra C manual,
The FlashStudio manual,
The TIGCC help,
The online variable protocol documentation, and
As much of the Informational Text Section as I can

As for the online manuals, BTW, I've read TI-73, TI-80, TI-81, TI-82, TI-83, TI-83 Plus/SE, TI-84 Plus/SE, TI-85, TI-86, TI-89, TI-89Ti, TI-92, TI-92 Plus, and Voyage 200 plus the booklets that came with them.

Oh, and the 83+ and AMS SDK Guides.

What!? I have, and I even know a girl from my school that read the calculator manual. She told me this just a while ago. Come to think of it, I think she did mention having a pink faceplate on her new TI-84+SE too.

But unless you're already good with most/all of the TI calcs (like most of us are), then I think you should really read the manual. If everybody read that darned book, nobody would ever have any stupid questions.

>> If everybody read that darned book, nobody would ever have any stupid questions.

I get hate mail from people who ask me really pointless questions and I answer them by tellng them to read their manual. And that is of course after I try to help them. I think thats relatively good of me especially since ticalc.org does not have an e-mail address where users can ask questios like that. Thus we have no obligation to even reply to those e-mails.

I am working on getting the FAQ back specifically for this reason...

Maybe you could make some kind of auto-reply program that scans all the e-mails to see if it's a n00b who can't figure out how to use the list editor on his new TI-84+SE, for example, and just send an auto-reply that says "RTFM." :)

But trust me... if they're not going to read the manual, they're probably not going to read the FAQ, as sad as that is.

Hi, I'm Joey Gannon. In eighth grade, I read the TI-83 manual cover-to-cover. I think it was the single most important thing I did to build the foundation for my programming career, calculator and otherwise. Pleased to meet you.

Okay, so you read the whole thing, I am proud of you. What I was saying was that I did not know of anyone that read the whole thing. so you did well in proving me wrong.

I have read some of the manuels for the 89 and 83+, most speciffically the BASIC programming section. What I was trying to get at was the it is not common for people the whole manuels in most cases.

I learn about things (probably not the best way) by fumbling around with them. The manuel is there for when I get really stuck.

If they did that, it probably would be a cover with holes drilled in it and the top cut off.

Does anybody want to do that? They sell spare covers online.

Yeah, I think the color face plate things are really pushing it... but if people will do it for their phones, they'll probably do it for their calculators as well. :-\

Oh, was "angles" misspelled on purpose? (Since there was the celestial battery back joke)

It is because in the TI product description it is misspelled as angels:
"TI Kickstand Slide Case
This slide case lets you raise your TI-84 Plus, TI-84 Plus Silver Edition or TI-89 Titanium to 4 different viewing angels."
