Verdante Forest RPG Released for 83/83+
Posted by Michael on 12 August 2004, 17:59 GMT

[The Verdante Forest: Arkaine' Arrival]Maarten Zwartbol has released The Verdante Forest RPG: Arkaine's Arrival for the 83 and 83 Plus. Essentially, it is a standard roleplaying game in which you must collect items, fight monsters, and gain experience. However, this project has been under development for three years. Consequentially, the gameplay is detailed by the number of available magic spells, types of armor and weapons, et cetera. This looks as if it will join the ranks of classic 83/83+ RPGs.

Yeah, it takes me weeks sometimes to get around to testing new progs, and I'm too lazy most of the time to finish any RPGs. :-[

My interpretation is that by laziness he meant coding his own rpg, not putting the time into finishing the game.

Right. That, or just making ANY game right now. I've been extremely lazy programming-wise over the summer.

No, no need to be. You are right! Disembodied-enouncer, what do we have for the young man?! Well it appears that either you get nothing or he has been shot. Well, thanks for playing!

I wasn't aware there were any.

Dying Eyes and Marc the Superkid. Those games are suprisingly good for a graphing calculator. The Final Fantasy one is probably pretty good, even though I've never played it. The same for Desolate, assuming it ever gets ported to the 83+.

Oh, I forgot about that one. It's good. I don't really care about the language it's written in as long as it's a good game.

I believe joltima's written in assembly, but it's one of the few that you can run without a shell of any sort. Kind of nice, but it's large and you have to keep it unarchived all of the time. It's still a great RPG, though.

Joltima kicks ass in that it uses BASIC in the beginning to run itself (or something, I do not know) such that you do not need to type "asm("

Um.. I think it is already ported. At least, I was playing it without problem on my 83+se last week.

How did you do that? Did you install Venus on your calc, or can Desolate run from MirageOS/Ion? I've been really wanting to try it (it looked great!) for a long time...

120d, shows how little of a life I have if I get excited about being able to try a calc game. ;-)

The 83 plus Desolate had some bugs. So the author took it off. That's what it says in the Readme...

That's a shame, I was a beta tester and I had the 83+ version working very well, and finished too.

Well, if there weren't any, this is now all of them! This is the only RPG I have ever actually liked. I just thought I should download it to laugh at it, but when I did, I just couldn't stop playing it!
