Oil Imperium for the 92
Posted by Michael on 16 July 2004, 02:51 GMT

[Oil Imperium]Recently an interesting 92 BASIC game was added to our archives. The catch? It's written only in German. Oil Imperium is a remake of of the 1989 PC game of the same name. As an oil manager you must buy fields and extract oil in three price regions. Random events such as fires and sabotage add to the excitement. For those of you who can read German, the game's website explains how to play. Viel spaß!

Update: PC game link changed to a better site.

Haha, thanks for the report. I made the game 5 years ago but could do an english version if there is a demand.
I will update the info-page soon to add an English description.

Notice that the game only follows the Original Oil Imperium loosely. It was made from memory and should not have been an exact copy anyways.

Oh, and it's only 3 regions; my mistake in the description.

Since apparently almost noone here is able to READ(esp. "Please be constructive and keep comment topics relevant to the article you are replying to."), I'll just reply to my own comment.

As said before, I (the creator) am willing to translate the game; so stop offering or asking about it, I don't want anyone else to do this. Thanks.

So, the translation of my description of the game (my English is not perfect) can now be found in this post's URL.

Kein Grund zur Aufregung! :-)

People offering to translate your game just want to be helpful. If you prefer to do it yourself, that's fine, of course. You just don't need to shout against the people who only want to help.

There's no problem with help, I appreciate that. (didn't meant to be rude, just ..decisive)

That's, "Veil Spaß". Don't confuse the 'ß' (double-s, or sharp-s) with a 'B'. It is pronounced similar to a 's'.

He probably just didn't know how to type the 'ß'. You can either run the CHARMAP program from the Run menu or use an ALT-code, which can be found on the internet somewhere (most special characters like the 'ß' have their own ALT-codes).

BTW, this is a pretty cool game. I really like to study German and think it's good for the community to see a variety of games in different languages.

Yes, you can't use certain "special" characters on this site. This is a discovery we've been through plenty of times, lol

∙ <-- see? Does weird stuff- and that was just alt 249 (no zero in the front)

On Linux, you can usually use the setxkbmap command to change the keyboard map.
BTW, where in the world is the @ symbol on the German keyboard? I have not been able to find it.

Well, it looks neat, but I don't think too many people have TI-92s, but since it's in basic, would it run on the TI-92+ and Voyage 200? And hey... BASIC programs don't get featured that often. Neither do TI-92 programs either... so we have something unique here! ;-)

It will run on any AMS, with a shell (to create ghost space on the screen so it will run on a 100x160).

In other words, it will run on 92+, V200, and 89 with a shell.

I don't follow... A shell, for a BASIC program? "create ghost space on the screen"? I don't want to insult you, but this does sound like gibberish...

Re: Re: Compatibility

128x240 vs. 100x160 needs some sort of shell program to display it correctly and prevent it from throwing errors. I was referring to the 28x80 pixel area as ghost space because it's not really there but is necessary to display a TI-92 Plus graphic on a TI-89.

I was trying to say it in ASM terms. Sorry for the confusion.

"Some sort of shell?" It seems that you're talking about something that you'd like to exist. I suspect that you have invented the term "ghost space."

Re: Re: Re: Re: Compatibility

Yes. I would very much like that shell to exist. All I was saying was that that kind of program would be required to run the featured program in question on a TI-89.

If there were no ghost space, the TI-89 would be compatible with the TI-89 Titanium. I wish I made it up.

"ghost space", at least in the context you used it was made up. The calculator's so-called ghost space is an area in memory where programs can be run in a back-door sort of way to get around TI's protections against large programs. I think the extra 80x28 space you're talking about is the rest of the LCD_MEM, which IS located on the TI-89. The size allocated for the 89's screen in memory is the same as it is on the 92+/v200 (3840 bytes); it's just not shown, so you wouldn't really need a "shell" to create such space. It's already there!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Compatibility

Look, what's hard about this? 92+ graphics need a shell to display on an 89 screen. I know what the ghost space is. I simply said that it would be necessary to create extra space on the screen by allowing the graphic to scroll so it doesn't throw an error. I used the term 'ghost space' as a general purpose term to refer to space that doesn't actually exist and needs to be simulated. What is so hard to understand?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Compatibility

BTW, I thought the ghost space *was* extra memory in LCD_MEM.

Also, the purpose of the shell would not be to create the memory but to allow the user to scroll to the lower right to display the full picture.

Clear?
