Dialog Box Maker
Posted by Michael on 3 January 2004, 16:29 GMT

My New Year's resolution is to post more news, more often. We've had a decent amount, but by the end of the year I hope that your calculator explodes from all the programs that you tried to download into it.

With that said, there's an interesting BASIC program for the 89 called Dialog Box Maker. As the title indicates, it provides for the creation of custom dialog boxes that look better than any of the built-in ones with elements such as: a title, menus, buttons, checkboxes. The elements can be in different font sizes, and there's a mouse.

Sounds interesting, and the dialogs certainly look nice. I think I might have to try it.

Isn't that weird how news boards just pop up out of nowhere when I'm on?

I thought you could already do Dialogs with BASIC...

Oh wait, this is much better than the TI-OS Dialogs. And it even has a mouse! Even though, a mouse might be a little hard to operate on a small calc. Anyway, it looks neat. It will probably get used in a lot of BASIC programs.

But this makes them so incredibly much cooler! It also seems rather more powerful than the built-in routines. But does it have any weaknesses (i.e. built-in features that it does not have)?

Well, of course, no text box is better than the TIOS's own. This is only speculation, but, according to the screenshot, you can't highlight text, or use the right/left arrow keys to change written text. I doubt DIAMOND+V and DIAMOND+C (DIAMOND+SHIFT and DIAMOND+ESC on TI-89) will have the same effects, either.

Right, you cant highlight the text, but you can use left and right arrows to modify text: the text will be inserted like with TiOs dialog box.

"My New Year's resolution is to post more news, more often."

Sounds good to me. Can't argue with a lot of news!

BTW, my New Year's resolution was going to be 1024x768, but I decided not to get a New Year's resolution, this year. I'll stick with 800x600.

... What monitor and graphics card do you use to get that bizarre resolution?

My new year's resolution is to stop complaining about people I don't like.

So basically you can fit one item on your taskbar, and get about 200 words?
