Lotus Turbo Challenge v1.0 For 83
Posted by Nick on 14 September 1999, 01:16 GMT

Time for yet more program spotlights. Badja released an interesting racing game for the 83 called Lotus Turbo Challenge. This game is unique in many respects. It has multiple heights and it even features enemy cars. This is definitely worth a look-see for anyone using SOS.

Update (Nick): Sam Heald released a port of Lotus Turbo Challenge to the 82 (CrASH) today. The possibility of more ports to come looks promising.

I'm glad ticalc finally decided to post a news article on this. ;) Anyways, this game, in my opinion, is not only the best racing game for the 83, but also probably one of the best games in terms of everything. (except RPGs.) The game itself is smoother than the screenshot provides...

No, we have a program which will capture screen shots. It works automatically (turn it on, then turn it off when you're done) and it captures in increments of 110, 220, or 330 ms. That means that the screenshots can be choppy for arcade games, but it's just meant to give an idea of what the program looks like.

Um, it's proprietary, so no, you can't have it. :)

For those with an infinite patience:

Run the program in an emulated TI, make sure it is running VEEEERY slow (have Winamp play something, open many applications). Then make screen shots at a comfortable rate of 1 each minute!!!

Or just hit a camera button really, really fast, then scan the images in individually.

Third level is giving me trouble. I beat the second level after a while because those lovely (seriously) tunnels got me everytime because I thought I was wrecking into a wall because they come up so fast! Third level is the problem as of now. But, it isn't affecting my school work as I don't take my 83 to school, just my 83+.

I have beaten the game. Levels: 1 = Forest, 2 = Rain, 3 = Motorway, 4 = Snow, 5 = Desert, 6 = Storm. Storm is a cool level, and Snow is the hardest. At the end of the game, you get a "congrats", and a car flashes it's lights at you.

that level 6 is really hard on the eyes though - but it looks cool. It's in reverse vidoe (it's night) and it's raining. My head hurts now. Ughh. :)

Well I finished it.

The enddemo is quite nice, but short and way not as fantastic as the game itself...

i agree. Badja should make it so that if you win, your car gets to be a Ferrari from then on.

This game looks awesome. But is it really for the 83? I looked under the archive, and it wasn't there. It looks like an awesome game though for any TI.
