Super Mario Quest v0.9.3 Beta released
Posted on 20 January 1999, 00:21 GMT

[Super Mario Quest Screenshot]

Don Barnes has released Super Mario Quest v0.9.3 Beta for the TI-89 and TI-92 Plus, as well as the SMQ Editor v0.3 Beta for the TI-89 and TI-92 Plus. This new version adds fireballs, invincibility stars, the ability to slide, an optional info bar at the top, and an option password on custom level sets. Previously, the game and the level editor were included in the same archive; however now they are seperate archives.

Got any levels?
Mark Slade

I really love SMQ!! My calc just crashed because I tried to run a different game, but I didn't have what was needed. I had 2 levels that I made! Now they are gone! =o( Is anyone willing to E-mail the levels that they made? I just like to see what other people come up in levels!

Just attach it to an E-mail to me (my E-mail is above). You don't even need to type a message, I'll know what it is!

Thanks!

Please!? I want at least one person to let me trk one of their levels! Since ticalc doesn't have SMQ game levels YET, I just would like to try yours! I will not edit it! There is no need for me to do that!

Thanks much!

Okay, first you need to decide which shell you will use. I recommend you download DoorsOS .96b, since only it supports SMQ. Load that onto your calculator and run on your calc: doorsos() and don't forget the () at the end. Now send smq and mariolvl to your calc. Run doors() (if you want you can rename it kbdprgm1 so you only have to press diamond-1 to run the shell) and find your way through.

An easier way!
Drew Siegman

All you have to do to run Doors is to go [shift] then [on]. (much easier that way)

AHHHH. Can someone point me to the correct winzip library for SMQ. There are 3 versions out there (at least what I've counted so far).

You know the name of the file is ziplib.89z, right? The version included with DoorsOS .96 is probably the one you should use.

Why no Mario Bros for TI-85's ?

TI Freak

Well, Sqrxz is the closest thing to come to Mario Brothers for the 85!! This game is real good by 85 standards. The level editor really sweetens the pot!

At the home screen, type doorsos(). It will say, "Installation successful." Something like that. To launch the shell, type doors(). I prefer to rename doors kbdprgm1, so I only have to type diamond-1 to launch the shell.

It would be alot easier to use the [shift]-[on] combo that is built into Doors. Just a suggestion.

Suggestions- improvements
A.J. Orians

First I would like to say it is a great game! It is so good. It is the best game I have ever seen on a Ti-89. But I would like to say it would be funner if it have some improvements. One is to have it so it, so if you kick a turdle shell into a brick, the brick breaks. Like the 86 version of mario. Your game doesn't need it but it would be great if you would do that. Also, make another kind of water which mario can swim in. Then there could be under wanter levels that would be great fun.

I think your suggestions sound like good ideas, but what Don Barnes (the guy who blessed your lives and made you grade in math drop) was or is trying to do is make Super Mario Quest as close to the original game as possible. Once it is completely robust, then start looking for support for things that started in latter marios such as the underwater levels and the flying and Yoshi and all that.
