Virtual TI-89/92(+) v1.0 Beta released
Posted on 27 December 1998, 00:35 GMT

Rusty Wagner has released Virtual TI-89/92(+) v1.0 Beta for Windows. This is an emulator for all 68k based TI calculators, which includes the TI-89, TI-92, TI-92 II, and TI-92 Plus. This emulator has many great features, here are just a few:

  • ROM versions are automatically detected
  • Switch between ROM versions without restarting the emulator
  • Archive memory support for TI-89 and TI-92 Plus
  • Send files to the calculator
  • Use a TI Graph-link cable to connect to a real TI-89 or TI-92
  • Save and load the state of the calculator. Any changes to the Flash ROM will be included in the state
  • 4-level and 7-level grayscale support
  • Bitmap of the calculator with clickable buttons

You will need a ROM dump of your calculator to use this emulator. Since it is illegal to distribute them on the Internet, you will have to dump your own. The emulator includes a built-in ROM dumper for use with a TI-89 or TI-92 Plus. If you have a TI-92, you can use one of the various ROM dummping programs on this site.

Rusty has also released the source code for his emulator program. It requires C++Builder 3 to compile.

I'm wondering if this emulator (or any other working emulator for TI-86 or higher) will run on a Windows CE palmtop-type computer. This would be EXTREMELY helpful! THANKS!

Yo i have an old 8086, is there a port available?

Just kidding...

This prgram really rocks, but sometimes when sending many files from the calc to the emulator you get a lin error on the emulator.
And did you notice that the serial number is not displayed in the about box?... That's perhaps a result of using a ROM update from TI...

there's no such thing as C++ Builder 4.52, the latest is version 3. you must be thinkin of Borland C++

Smart Dude

Say What? C++ Builder 3 ?
Then what is up with Microsoft C++ 5.0... or even 6.0.... they don't have the "Builder 3".

Borland C++ Builder is like Visual Basic except that it's based on a real programming language. Since it's been developed by Borland it's not a part of Visual C++.

When you run the installation /setup program that you download, it will realize that you don't have a ROM dump in the same directory and ask you if you want to get one. Then just hook your calc up to your Graph-Link cable, the installation programs will copy an asm file onto your calc, run it and download your ROM. It's all self explanatory as you run the program.

A bug in Dumprom.89z ???
JULIEN

Thanks for your advice but it doesn't work yet. I've done what you said and when I run dumprom(), the program doesn't begin ! It has just written '0K of 2024K' on the screen and that's all ! MY Ti Graph Link is good because I test it !
If someone know what it doesn't work, reply me since you can ! THANKS!

Easy way to get an 89 or 92+ ROM
Aaron
(Web Page)

ATTENTION EVERYONE!!

There is an INCREDIBLY EASY way to get a TI-89 or TI-92+ ROM without a graphlink cable.

Step 1: Click on the web page below my name to go to the download page for the 89 ROM. Click on "accept", then download ti89base.exe.

Step 2: Run the file. You will get a prompt to install the ROM. Don't click on anything!!

Step 3: With the program STILL RUNNING, go to your temp directory (usually c:\windows\temp ) and find the file with a .tib extension. (It may be in a sub directory) Copy this file to the directory where you installed Virtual TI-89. That's all!

You can now click "Cancel" to exit, and delete the ti89base.exe file.

The same basic process can be followed for the TI-92+ ROM.

NOTE: This is probably illegal. Don't try it unless you actually own an 89 or a 92+.

Benny

It's easier than that. Just open the file ti89base.exe with winzip. In it is the installer and that file. Just extract it and use it.

Yeah, I suppose you could go and do something easy like that to ruin all the fun. :)

That's nice, but I want to do things the easiest way in this case. His way is easier, and yours is just plain, well, easy.

Thanks Aaron, I've been looking for a Ti-89 ROM for about 3 days. I've got the parallel link and I'm just too damned lazy to go and buy one, thanks again bro.

Hi!
Could you explain me a little more how to run this emulator without having the ti graph link because I have lots of trouble, even following your pieces of advice.
