Attention span: 9/10 Fun to play.
Controls: 7/10 No control choice, but still good.
Implementation: 9/10 Small size, good game.
Overall: 9/10 Great game.

Galaxian is your basic space invaders clone done right. This game has been ported to many different calculators, and it is virtually identical to any other version. The 86 version, however does not contain two versions like most of the others. You are forced to use "classic" controls which use the F1 and F2 buttons for firing. While this isn't terrible, it would be nice to have the choice of using the 2nd and alpha buttons. Flipping the screen would be another useful option. This would allow right handed people to have rapid fire (try it, you can shoot faster with your right hand). Another great improvement would be upgradeable weapons.

The game's positive features far outweigh the negative ones. The game itself is very fun and involving. Graphics run smoothly, and ship control is responsive. There is also a wide variety of enemies that come in different formations. The game is also supported by very good documentation. Each of these enemies is described in detail, and a background story is also provided.

Galaxian is a fun game that is also relatively small. You should have this on your calculator.

This game has some sentimental value for me. It was the first ASM game of value I ever played on my TI-86. In fact, back in 2001 I manually typed this one in on my calculator! It was worth the 20-30 minutes, as well.

At version 3.0, the game is bugless and seamless. You'll notice very few slowdowns. The sprites are solid and clear. Too many games will give you these skinny bullets and ships trying to make the game seem better graphically. While that may well be the case, a game is much more fun when it is easier to see what you're doing. Such is the case with Galaxian. The only issue someone could have is that auto-fire is not implemented (though it can easily be with a simple recompile after uncommenting a line in the source), so your thumb will get some exercise. 10/10
