Title Star Trek: Mercenary
Description The federation has falled into chaos. Only a few space docks remain in the once powerful quadrant ruled by the Federation. But now invaders, Klingons and Romulans, as well as pirates have begun to claim parts of Federation space as their own. You command a crew of mercenaries and you fly through the universe to eliminate this threat. There are four classes of ships that you can command, as well as upgrades that can be bought at the federation owned docks. There are two types of weapons, phasers and torpedoes, and two views of game play. The SR can shows the immediate area that your ship is in, and the LR scan shows the quadrant as you have explored it.

I downloaded this game a few weeks ago, and sent it to my calc, thinking that it was yet another lame-o BASIC game written by some wannabe Trekkie. I was refreshed and surprised by this awesome game. “Star Trek: Mercenary” is a game that pushes the limits of BASIC. Great gameplay as the captain of the ship, very friendly user-interface, etc. It uses all of your variables, all of your built-in lists, and all of your matrices, as well as three of your picture spaces, not to mention the overall large size (it takes up a full 20kb of your RAM or ARC), and the group file must be sent to RAM, or the main interface program will screw up.

However, it has great gameplay and is the first good Trek game I've seen. This easily makes up for the large size.

Gameplay: 8/10 (opponents’ ships can't recharge or move, but maybe that has something to do with the calc's limitations).

Speed: 6/10 (a little slow)
Graphics: 10/10 (awesome)
Memory Consumption: 2/10 (real bad)
Originality: 10/10 (first reasonably good Trek game)
Overall: 8/10
