Attention span: 7/10 Once you get into it, it's good. Controls: 8/10 Slightly akward but intuitive. Implementation: 9/10 Elegant in its simplicity. Overall: 7/10 Worth a try at the very least.
Looking for a simple puzzle game to keep you occupied for a little while? Robots, which is apparently a remake of an older game, is a pretty good one that will flex that cerebral muscle.
The game's storyline doesn't go into detail, so I'll put my own spin on it here. You're a human dumped into an arena with all these robots running around. You have to destroy all the robots, but there's one catch. You have no weapons. (Well, not really.)
Control is a little different than most games. Instead of using the arrow keys to move, you use the numpad. It's a little akward to use at first, but you get used to it. When you move, all the robots move toward you. The only weapon you have eliminates the robots in the squares around you, but you can only use it once in the game. Robots that crash into pils of junk each other become junked, and your goal is to junk all the robots.
Puzzlers always have their ups and downs. In this game's case, the graphics are not flashy by any means. There's also not much variety to the levels, just you and the robots. A save or restart option would be nice too, as you are popped back to TI-OS when you die. Maybe adding a few of these features would be nice for a later version (hint, hint).
Robots is a good game with no bugs and a few minor gripes. A solid addition to any library. |
