Attention span: 9/10. You'll want to beat this game.
Controls: 10/10. Basic up, down, left, and right.
Implementation: 8/10. The spells are all unique!
Overall: 9/10. Great RPG with exceptional plot.

“Dying Eyes” is a role-playing game for the calculator. It is very challenging and long, and comes with its ups and downs.

The one thing that sets this game apart is the variety of magic spells! There are over then, which is a great achievement. In addition, each one has its own animation! The battle engine is extremely fast, and very easy to use. The graphics for the monsters are all different, unlike other RPGs, where they just change the shade of the picture to designate a different monster. It's very easy to move around, and it does not have unbearably hard gameplay. It also never becomes impossible to beat when saved at the wrong time.

The downsides are few, and almost unnoticeable. The character moves a bit too fast. It's also a bit too difficult to escape the first dungeon at the start of the game, so sometimes you have to start with a new character a few times. It would help to be able to save at any time, or have more save-points. A few more items would also be good.

Overall, I recommend this game for anyone who likes Adventure/RPG games, or just someone who wants a good challenge. This game is available for other TI calculator models as well.

I am a person that wants a game that you actually take time to beat. Sure, fast and fun arcade games are great for a boring study hall, but when I want a long lasting fun adventure on my calculator, I turn to role-playing games.

Fairly new to calculator role-playing games, I didn’t know what to expect when I downloaded Dying Eyes 86. Which is a port of a game originally created for the TI-82.

A major part of an RPG is of course the story. Usually, the main character is a good guy. Apparently in Dying Eyes, you are a murderer in prison who has a lover “Akara”. The game does not explain how all the guards suddenly die in the prison. Neither does the documentation. Dying Eyes has a fairly good plot, yet is slightly unoriginal.

A new approach to the actual mechanics is the gain in status when your level is increased. You choose what you gain with an allocation of 30 points every level gain, which is great. Your status includes hit points, magic points, strength, intelligence, and dexterity. Your amount of intelligence determines what spells you can learn (of 8). Dexterity is basically speed, how fast you wield you shield, and the ability to dodge attacks. The game also has skills, 8, that our basically spells.

One thing I dislike was the lack in variety of items. Magic kits, bombs, and health kits are the only choices. But it’s not a big flaw. Another thing I liked over the author’s last game, FFx4, is the ability to purchase weapons, not just upgrades. Another addition is an actual world, not just room after room.

Overall, this is a great game, and will last a while on your calculator.
